Methodology & Sources

When a verifier asks “which rules?”, you need a dated answer

CBAMValid never silently changes methods — each ruleset is named, dated and recorded inside the sealed report.

Direct answer: Authoritative calculations pin to a named, versioned ruleset recorded in the sealed dossier. Historical seals keep the ruleset they were built against.

The pressure you are under: vague “we followed latest guidance” answers fail. You need a dated method reference — and honesty that sealing is preparation, not accreditation.

Method Principles

How the engine treats your data

Deterministic replay

Identical inputs always produce identical outputs. The calculation trace records every formula and factor, so results can be re-derived by an independent party.

PRINCIPLE 01

Provenance flags

Every value carries a source class: measured, calculated, literature or default. Defaults are never hidden — they are flagged in the dossier with the legal basis for their use.

PRINCIPLE 02

Boundary discipline

One installation, one reporting year per dossier. Allocations follow mass-balance rules with explicit double-counting guards across precursors.

PRINCIPLE 03

Versioned change policy

Ruleset updates ship as new named versions. Previously sealed dossiers remain bound to their original ruleset — history is never rewritten.

PRINCIPLE 04

Trust Statement

Built around current published EU CBAM rules and official source data. Designed for exporter-to-importer evidence transfer and verification readiness.

Mandatory Limitation & Regulatory Disclaimer

CBAMValid prepares calculation and evidence packages. It is not an EU institution, customs authority, or accredited CBAM verifier. Actual emissions must be independently verified where verification is legally required.

Which ruleset and methods does CBAMValid use for authoritative calculations?

01Direct answer

Authoritative calculations pin to a named, versioned ruleset recorded in the sealed dossier. Historical sealed releases keep the ruleset they were built against; methods are not silently rewritten after sealing.

The pressure you are under

When a verifier asks which rules you followed, “latest guidance” is not an answer. You need a dated method reference inside the package.

  1. 02Calculation

Direct and indirect emissions, precursor treatment, and allocation shares are computed with unit discipline, null/zero separation, and reconciliation guards. Intermediate precision is preserved; reporting-stage rounding is explicit.

  2. 03Explanation

Methodology pages and sealed traces cite Regulation (EU) 2023/956 and implementing rules for calculation and verification principles where applied.

  3. 04Methodology

Ruleset identity, engine version, legal source IDs, and calculation-node hashes form the reproducibility contract.

  4. 05Evidence

Method decisions and material inputs must be evidence-linked where required before a seal can pass.

  5. 06Expert

Calculation logic is reviewed against EU CBAM mathematical rules by Prof. Dr. Neela Nataraj (Department of Mathematics, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay). That review supports mathematical integrity of engines and allocation logic — it is not an accredited CBAM verification opinion, EU approval, or customs acceptance.

Methodology answers with evidence

Each answer is written so a person — or an answer engine — can cite a single clear statement with supporting evidence and legal/product boundaries. Browse the full answer bank · Entity glossary

Direct answer

Does sealing mean my emissions are officially verified?

No. Sealing locks an operator-prepared dossier with integrity hashes for handover. Where verification is legally required, actual emissions must still be independently verified by an accredited verifier. CBAMValid prepares the package; it does not issue a verification opinion.

Why this matters

Overclaiming “verified” creates commercial and legal risk for exporters. Clear boundaries protect you when a buyer or verifier reviews the file.

Evidence

  • Seal meaning. Immutable operator package with SHA-256 manifest — prepared for independent review Learn moreverified

Claims on this page are bounded by published EU legal instruments. CBAMValid does not rewrite regulations; sealed packages pin the ruleset version used at seal time.
